Master of Natural Resources Program

An interdisciplinary graduate education program for natural resources and environmental sustainability professionals

Welcome to the Master of Natural Resources (MNR) program website.  The MNR is the graduate education component of the Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability, focused on global trends and prevailing forces that will have significant impacts on the planet and global society.  The MNR degree is offered in different formats to provide opportunities for students to select a path that most closely compliments their own personal interests and professional aspirations, including a range of graduate and professional certificates.

At its core, the Master of Natural Resources is a non-thesis interdisciplinary graduate degree designed to accommodate the busy schedules of working professionals.  Integral to the degree is the opportunity for students to design unique capstone projects that provide a learning experience while also enhancing students' professional capabilities and skills.  As the program thrives on diversity and interdisciplinary perspectives, we welcome applicants from all academic fields who are interested in natural resources, environmental issues, and global sustainability.

The Master of Natural Resources program is the graduate program of the Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability (CLiGS), a center within Virginia Tech’s College of Natural Resources and Environment (CNRE) in the National Capital Region.  CLiGS provides education, research, and leadership needed to prepare students and leaders in environmental and natural resource sustainability to operate in a rapidly changing world.  Bringing together faculty and students from Virginia Tech with partners from other educational, business, civic, and government institutions, CLiGS is dedicated to exploring and facilitating interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches to sustainable development strategies in globally interconnected ecological, economic, and social environments.
